Big Dutchman has a track record of success, forged over more than 80 years of activity, and serves as inspiration for the continuation of the entrepreneurial and competent work that characterizes its existence.
Since 1938, when brothers Jack and Dick Dewit founded the company in Michigan, USA, Big Dutchman it has been developing modern and effective solutions for the constant improvement of poultry, egg and pig farming processes.
Our History
- ERA 1 -
The Birth of an Idea
(1938 – 1950)
1938
The beginning of automation: Brothers Jack and Dick DeWitt found the company in Michigan, USA, after inventing the world's first automatic feeding system. This milestone marked the end of heavy manual labor on poultry farms.
1940
Big Dutchman takes off: The chain feeding design is patented, a standard that to this day defines efficiency in the industry.

Expansion and Global Leadership
(1950 – 1980)
1958
1958 – Conquering Europe: The first headquarters is established in Calves, Germany. What began as a sales office quickly became the technical heart of the company.
1970s
1970s – Total diversification: Big Dutchman stops being just a «poultry» company to also lead the pig farming sector with cutting-edge management and feeding systems.

A New Family Vision
(1980 – 2000)
1985
1985 – Long-term commitment: Josef Meerpohl, who was the driving force of the company in Germany, acquires the company. Big Dutchman it becomes a family business with a vision of stability and closeness to the producer.
1990s
1990s – Innovation in Animal Welfare: The first aviary systems are launched (Natura), decades ahead of today's demands for animal welfare and sustainability.

2010 – The Digital Revolution (BigFarmNet): Launch of BigFarmNet, the pioneering software that lets you control the entire farm production from a single place, integrating sensors and real-time data.
