V-shaped under-floor manure scraper for reducing NH3 emissions in pig houses
Until now there was no separation of faeces and urine in the slurry channel. The enzyme urease breaks down the urea in the animals' urine, producing mainly ammonia. This is released as a gas and increases ammonia emissions.
The RollOver V manure scraper, developed by Big Dutchman, separates faeces and urine, thus preventing decomposition and clearly reducing ammonia emissions. Our new process is one of the best available techniques (BAT) for reducing emissions in pig management.
Operating mode
A prerequisite for using the RollOver V is a V-shaped slurry channel with a 10% slope at the base and a central slit in the form of an omega pipe (Ø 110 mm).
The manure scraper, driven by a traction cable, is used several times a day, up to twelve times depending on the channel length. The urine flows into the slit and must be stored and reused separately from the faeces. To prevent blockages in the urine slit, it is cleaned each time the manure scraper is used. This is done with a cleaning plate fixed to the scraper.
Key advantages:
clear reduction of ammonia emissions in the house → possible up to 60% in weaning and fattening;
reduction of odours and less formation of hydrogen sulphide;
much better air quality in the house → positive influence on the pigs' respiratory tract and also beneficial for the farmer;
the separation of faeces and urine facilitates transport and allows specific use as fertilizer;
the RollOver V is one of the best available techniques (BAT) for reducing emissions in pig management;
reduction of NH3 emissions into the environment.
