Egg collection systems for cage management

Egg collection systems

Egg collection is an important part of the facilities for layer and breeder hen management. Because good personnel and time management, the best egg quality and the exact recording of the eggs obtained are indispensable. Big Dutchman satisfies in an exemplary way the high expectations that egg collection systems must meet:

  • careful egg transport;
  • high reliability;
  • easy handling.

Depending on the size of the operation, the different barn layouts and the owner's specifications, we offer different egg collection systems. These include elevators, up-and-down systems, inclined, curved or rod conveyors and also motorized tables and manual collection tables.

EggSmart

EggSmart is an elevator developed by Big Dutchman, which carefully transports the eggs from the longitudinal belts to the transverse one, passing through the elevator chain. It is characterized above all by its lower space requirement. The eggs from the longitudinal belt are first transferred to a very short rod conveyor. From there, they are distributed across the entire width of the elevator chain with the help of deflectors, without further devices. The transfer of the eggs from the patented elevator chain to the transverse belt takes place through Big Dutchman's efficient transfer unit.

Key advantages:

  • collection performance → up to 9,000 eggs per hour;
  • simultaneous egg collection from up to 4 tiers;
  • lower space requirement in the final assembly;
  • without extra devices → minimal maintenance and adjustment work;
  • free access to all rows → the transverse collection does not act as a barrier;
  • rod conveyor with cleaning function → shell-less eggs and dirt particles do not access the elevator chain;
  • suitable for all cage systems;
  • easy assembly.

EggCellent

The EggCellent elevator, developed by Big Dutchman, stands out for the high collection performance and the lower need for adjustments. Logically, the safe transport of the eggs remains important.

To achieve this, in a first step, the eggs are transferred from the longitudinal belt to a rod conveyor. Then, the eggs are distributed across the entire width of the elevator chain with deflectors, without other devices. To adapt the transport to the laying performance, the egg belts and the elevator chains are driven separately.

Key advantages:

  • high collection performance → up to 19,000 eggs per hour*;
  • simultaneous egg collection from up to 8 tiers;
  • without dosing devices → minimal maintenance;
  • rod conveyor with cleaning function → shell-less eggs and dirt particles do not access the elevator chain;
  • free access to all rows → the transverse collection does not act as a barrier;
  • suitable for all cage systems;
  • easy to assemble and adjust.

Curve conveyor

The different barn layouts and overcoming height differences often require custom solutions for egg transport. Curve conveyors are the best option. They are very flexible and can adapt to each barn situation.

The essence of the conveyor is the conveyor chain, galvanized or with plastic protector, consisting of two chains
reinforced side chains with transversely welded rods, placed at the same level. This allows a smooth transfer of the eggs to the conveyor chain, without jams on the inner part of the curve. The distance between the transverse rods allows an inclination of up to 20°. The curves are available with the standard angles of 180°, 90° and 45°.

Cleaning unit: ultrasound for curve conveyor

To safely remove dirt, and with it bacteria, salmonellosis or fungi, from the entire chain of the curve conveyor, we have two cleaning units. These can be operated mobile or fixed. Both work with ultrasound, using hot water and a special cleaning product. The compact cleaning unit can clean about 200 m of chain, the large unit about 600 m, filling the tank once. Depending on the degree of dirt, several cycles may also be needed.

EggScan 120

EggScan 120 works with a scanning width of 120 mm (4.7 inches) and is therefore ideal for narrow belts. This egg counter can be very easily installed on the longitudinal belt of each tier, with birds in cages, or on the transverse belt. All egg counters are joined in a counter network thanks to a quick connection (plug and play). The egg count is shown on the ViperTouch controller or on the farm controller if you have amacs.

Digital EggFlow

Using Digital EggFlow, the speed of the egg belts is controlled globally, so that the egg flow is optimized to adapt to the performance of the sorter/packer.

Key advantages:

  • maximum and lasting use of sorting or packing machines → significantly shorter collection time;
  • the best egg quality due to its smooth and trouble-free transport;
  • automatic start of the belts in the morning, the egg flow stops directly at the packer or sorter → no waiting times at the start of collection;
  • it is possible to plan the collection groups the day before;
  • barns of the same collection group finish at the same time – with the maximum possible fill rate;
  • directly after, the eggs of the next collection group are transported to the transverse belt;
  • up to 10 transverse belts can be synchronized to reach a maximum of four sorting/packing machines;
  • better advance planning due to the greater transparency of processes in the packing area.
